I Always Need a Vacation From My Vacation

Season #3

Nothing in this episode is medical advice. It is education and lived experience. Anything you are weighing for your own health is a decision to make with your own healthcare provider, who knows your history and your whole picture.

I have been a nurse for almost forty years and a board-certified health coach for the last several, and I still come home from vacation needing a vacation. In this solo episode I say that gap out loud, offer five honest guesses about why it happens, and share the question I now want to measure every trip by.

In this episode, we talk about:

  • Why a restorative yoga retreat in Yelapa still sent me home depleted
  • Travel as a health intervention: a week that changes your sleep, food, movement and stress all at once
  • Five honest guesses, from overbooking to the unwritten rules of getting your money's worth
  • The role that rushes in when you set the others down, and what a family camp taught me about meal planning
  • Why a decision made before you need it beats willpower in a hotel room at seven in the morning
  • My experiment for an upcoming trip, and a four-minute reflection for you
